Overview

The Project Officer (Data & Research) will support the coordination and development of data collection, produce data analysis and research outputs, and assist government counterparts in strengthening their capacities in data collection and analysis on migration issues.

Tasks Summary
  • Conduct geographic and thematic analyses and prepare inputs for reporting on migration dynamics.
  • Identify opportunities and contribute to the development of data collection methods and coordinate data collection and analysis efforts.
  • Keep abreast of data and research developments and participate in coordination with other IOM missions.
  • Conduct data verification, triangulation and validation through multiple sources.
  • Support literature/desk review and carry out in-depth data analysis of datasets.
  • Coordinate the implementation of data collection processes and overall data management activities.
  • Ensure compliance with IOM data protection policies, data governance standards, and security standards.
  • Create an information system for the data collected.
  • Ensure the timely preparation and generation of mission-level information products.
  • Ensure data is relevant for policy making.
  • Assist in the development of user-friendly training modules and workshop materials.
  • Support capacity-building activities on migration data collection, management, analysis and dissemination.
  • Provide technical support to national counterparts in analysing census and survey data related to migration.
  • Provide inputs to evidence-based recommendations to improve data collection methods and internal workflows.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience Requirements
  • Experience in conducting research on migration and migration data, in particular with regard to migration in Africa and Europe, demonstrated by relevant professional assignments and/or contributions to analytical products.
  • Experience supporting capacity development activities and trainings, including online modalities.
  • Experience collaborating with national and international stakeholders.
  • Experience collaborating with National Statistics Offices.
Qualification Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Migration Studies, Demography, Political or Social Science, Statistics, Data Science, Information Management, Economics, or related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or,
  • University degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience.
Other Details

Languages Required: Fluency in English and French is required (oral and written).

Languages Preferred: Working knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.

Contract Duration: 1 year with possibility of extension
