Overview
The incumbent will support the Nuclear Policy Directorate in the development and implementation of NATO’s policy and activities related to CBRN defence to enhance plans, training and exercises, and ensure required capabilities are integrated into NATO’s deterrence and defence posture.
Tasks Summary
- Contribute to the formulation and the development of all aspects of NATO CBRN defence policy, strategy, and public outreach.
- Keep abreast of current issues and developments pertaining to NATO’s CBRN defence policy and its implementation and to deterrence and defence in general.
- Contribute to the planning and coordination of CBRN defence activities within the Defence Policy and Planning Committee.
- Provide administrative support, as required, for meetings of senior CBRN Policy Directors.
- Track the implementation of committee decisions, report on progress, and contribute to the timely execution of policy directives issued by these bodies.
- Support the planning and administration of conferences, seminars, exercises and other special events organised under the auspices of NPD and the bodies it supports.
- Assist in the preparation of documentation and publications relating to NPD’s work as directed, and exchange knowledge and information with colleagues on relevant issues.
- Conduct research for, draft and support the development of policy documents, strategic communications, and public outreach materials on NATO’s CBRN defence policy and its implementation, CBRN preparedness, and capability development.
- Support Director, NPD, and deliver briefings, as requested, in public engagements, meetings with Allied officials, and in other official capacities as needed.
- Perform any other related duty as assigned.
Experience Requirements
- At least three years’ experience in the field of defence and/or international affairs.
- Knowledge and/or professional experience in the field of chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) policy.
- Further studies or an educational degree in security/defence policy, with a particular focus on CBRN defence/counter weapons of mass destruction (WMD) proliferation and international cooperation (advantage).
- Knowledge of NATO’s policies, procedures and institutional framework, particularly the responsibilities and roles of the NATO civil and military bodies involved in CBRN defence, and counter proliferation of WMD (advantage).
- Experience working in a similar position focused on CBRN defence and/or counter WMD proliferation within a national administration, international organization, academia, think-tank or non-governmental organization (advantage).
Qualification Requirements
• A university degree, or an equivalent level of qualification such as a high-level military education, preferably with a specialisation in political science, international affairs, defence policy, or security studies.
