Researcher – Assessment of economic opportunities for returning migrants (Uzbekistan)

Overview

The researcher will assess the local market and sector environment for returning migrants in Uzbekistan, identifying business and job opportunities for their reintegration.

Tasks Summary
  • Focus group discussion guide developed and participants mobilized.
  • 5 focus group discussions with returnees conducted.
  • Survey tool for returnees adapted and 30 returnees surveyed.
  • List of key return actors and relevant stakeholders compiled, and questions for interviews with them prepared.
  • 10 Key Informant Interviews carried out.
  • 3 sectors of interest to returnees identified, based on sector analysis and KII.
  • Survey tool for companies adapted to local context.
  • 30 companies surveyed on their experience with and attitudes towards returnees.
  • A database of persons and companies that were interviewed compiled with analysis of survey.
  • Comprehensive report, including research findings and practical recommendations for support interventions, developed.
Experience Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting private sector or migration research.
  • Strong understanding of Uzbekistan’s economic environment.
  • Proven ability to conduct qualitative interviews and sector analysis.
  • Experience working on migration or displacement, reintegration, or entrepreneurship (desired).
Qualification Requirements
  • Advanced degree in economics, business, development studies, migration studies, empirical research or related field.
  • Extensive relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the university degree.
Other Details

Languages Required: Fluency in English, both spoken and written. Fluency in Uzbek and/or Russian.

Contract Duration: 2 months from ASAP

Work Modality: Home-based (mandatory) in Uzbekistan
