INTERN - RESEARCH ASSISTANCE

Overview

Seeking interns to conduct research supporting Library products and services related to major UN conferences, including the International Law Commission. This role offers experience in library services, reference work, and understanding UN agendas.

Tasks Summary

• Participate in reference services in UN Library Geneva reading rooms, including services for the ILC.
• Contribute to developing and researching content for the Library’s Conference Primers platform.
• Assist in managing the Library’s specialized legal collections.
• Conduct legal research and update bibliographies on international law issues on the ILC agenda.
• Provide training sessions on library resources and products.
• Respond to library patron requests.
• Undertake other relevant assignments.

Experience Requirements

• Experience in research assistance is desirable.
• Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.

Qualification Requirements

• Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
• Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). The applicant is required to be currently a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or PhD programme or equivalent, or have recently completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD programme.

Other Details

Languages Required: Fluency in English is required.

Languages Preferred: Fluency in other UN official language is desirable.

Contract Duration: 3-6 MONTHS

Remuneration: Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
