Overview

The Protection Manager is accountable for the implementation, quality, and coordination of DRC Sudan Protection activities in Kordofans State, directly managing Protection field teams.

Tasks Summary
  • Oversee implementation of Protection programming, including quality and budget management.
  • Undertake on-site visits to monitor activity implementation and provide technical advice.
  • Ensure relevance and implementation of beneficiary selection criteria.
  • Support information management and standardized databases.
  • Support donor reporting with accurate input.
  • Develop protocols and guidelines for protection activities and mainstreaming.
  • Train and coach staff on protection activities.
  • Participate in staff recruitment, on-boarding, induction, capacity building, and performance appraisal.
  • Build up and roll out a plan for creating, improving, and fostering skills of Protection Team.
  • Develop the strategic protection framework and DRC’s Protection Strategy in Kordofans.
  • Identify gaps and opportunities for further programming, support needs assessments and gap analyses.
  • Contribute to proposals and other programme development initiatives.
  • Ensure a protection risk analysis is in place and constantly updated.
  • Monitor protection risks and needs in project sites.
  • Collaborate with MEAL team to ensure monitoring activities are mainstreamed with protection.
  • Develop internal learning and appropriate program adjustments.
  • Lead the development of Protection assessments.
  • Support the development of accountability activities, ensuring compliance with CHS.
  • Accountability for the management of Protection programme budgets.
  • Ensure Protection Team raises Purchase Requests (PRs) in a timely manner.
  • Follow-up procurement processes.
  • Ensure HR policies are followed, including completion of regular Performance Management Meetings.
  • Ensure familiarity with DRC’s Operational Handbook.
  • Proactively seek training from Support Services Department on operational policies and processes.
  • Support Area Manager and Head of Programme in identifying partnership opportunities.
  • Liaise with local partners concerning protection activities and implementation.
  • Coordinate with national, local and international actors.
  • Participate in working groups and other sector meetings on protection related issues.
  • Stay abreast of developments in the protection environment in Sudan and provide timely analysis.
Experience Requirements
  • At least 4 years of proven national or international experience in field-based protection in a range of settings.
  • Detailed understanding of humanitarian and protection principles and their application, including community safety and rights-based approaches.
  • Knowledge of protection standards and guidelines.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to professionally and appropriately represent the organization and negotiate and defend DRC’s interests.
  • Skills in Project Cycle Management and sound project management skills.
  • Ability to work closely with a diverse team of individuals in a highly intense and fluid environment.
  • Proven experience in providing technical guidance and training including the development of training materials.
  • Effectively engages and communicates with communities in a responsible manner and is aware of AAP principles.
Qualification Requirements

• University degree or higher education in law, social sciences, or related field or equivalent work experience.

Other Details

Languages Required: • Fluency in written and spoken English.

Languages Preferred: • Fluency in written and Spoken Arabic is an added advantage.

Contract Duration: Nine months' contract with possibility of extension, subject to funding and performance.

Work Modality:

Remuneration: Salary and conditions in accordance with the Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for International staff or under terms of employment for National Staff in Sudan. This position is graded at M.F
