Overview

Support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of IOM’s Shelter and Settlement initiatives in Dadaab, Kenya, by providing technical support for shelter and infrastructure programming.

Tasks Summary
  • Support in preparing technical specifications, Bill of Quantities (BoQs), drawings and design of different types of contextual shelter.
  • Carry out site supervision, ensuring materials are used in accordance with the BoQ.
  • Ensure timely and adequate implementation of Shelter and Settlements & Non-Food Items (NFIs) project activities.
  • Roll-out of assessments, construction monitoring, and post distribution monitoring activities.
  • Regular field visit to supervise work and NFI kit distribution.
  • Provide training and technical support to beneficiaries on shelter building and repairing.
  • Undertake construction, Shelter and NFI materials quality checking, receiving and distribution management.
  • Plan logistics, administration and coordination of meetings, workshops, seminars, trainings, and conferences.
  • Maintain a close relationship with DRS, UN agencies, NGOs and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Draft and maintain project reports and records relevant to Shelter, settlement and NFI programming.
  • Support in identifying and documenting good practices, beneficiary stories and lessons learnt.
  • Undertake duty travel relating to the project activities, as required.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
Experience Requirements
  • Three years working in implementing Shelter, Settlement and NFI programmes in humanitarian crisis (with Bachelor's Degree).
  • Five years working in implementing Shelter, Settlement and NFI programmes in humanitarian crisis (with Diploma).
  • Experience in implementing Shelter activities including the construction and repair of shelter in camp and host community.
  • Experience in liaising with national, local governmental authorities and local leaders, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations.
  • Experience in working with migrants, undocumented refugees, internally displaced persons and other vulnerable groups.
  • Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, nongovernment or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
  • Experience in recovery and resilience projects would be an advantage.
Qualification Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Higher in Civil Engineering or environmental engineering, from an accredited academic institution.
  • Diploma in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering from an Accredited academic institution.
Other Details

Languages Required: Fluency in English (oral and written), Knowledge of Swahili is required.

Languages Preferred: Knowledge of Somali language is considered advantageous.
