Overview

The WASH Officer will contribute to the planning, implementation, monitoring, and coordination of WASH interventions to sustainably improve access to safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene for vulnerable populations.

Tasks Summary
  • Support the execution of safe drinking water projects (boreholes, solar water supply systems, rehabilitations).
  • Support community-led total sanitation activities.
  • Monitor sanitation marketing activities.
  • Participate in hygiene promotion and behavior change campaigns.
  • Monitor the activities of technical services and implementing NGOs.
  • Support WASH interventions in emergency situations.
  • Train water point management committees.
  • Strengthen the capacities of community relays.
  • Support awareness campaigns.
  • Conduct regular field supervision missions.
  • Verify compliance of works with SPHERE standards and national standards.
  • Monitor the functionality and sustainability of infrastructure.
  • Ensure programmatic follow-up with implementing partners.
  • Collect and analyze data using Kobo, ODK, and other digital tools.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Populate WASH databases and dashboards.
  • Support coordination with decentralized technical services (water, health, education).
  • Participate in WASH sector meetings.
  • Support collaboration with regional technical services, local authorities, and partner NGOs.
  • Contribute to the implementation of communication and advocacy activities for social and behavioral change (SBC) in favor of essential family practices, hygiene, and disease prevention.
  • Ensure the quality of SBC sessions related to health education.
  • Contribute to strengthening the capacities of community relays, Community Health Workers (CHWs), and women's groups.
  • Integrate gender, protection, and social inclusion.
  • Apply principles of accountability to affected populations.
  • Promote environmental and climate sustainability.
  • Integrate a child rights-based approach and equity in all interventions.
  • Identify and refer cases of vulnerability (mistreatment, gender-based violence - GBV, social exclusion) according to existing mechanisms.
  • Strictly apply UNICEF's Child Protection, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) policies, and Code of Conduct.
  • Collect, analyze, and report health and nutrition data according to standardized tools.
  • Contribute to monitoring key WASH indicators.
  • Participate in data reviews, coordination meetings, and joint integrated supervision at regional, district, and health area levels.
  • Ensure community accountability (feedback mechanisms).
  • Work in close collaboration with health structures, local authorities, and technical partners.
  • Participate in health and nutrition sector coordination frameworks and other integrated programs.
  • Support the integration of WASH-health-nutrition interventions at the local level.
  • Support remote rural communities in the sustainable management of infrastructure.
  • Participate in rapid emergency assessments.
  • Support the distribution of WASH kits and the installation of temporary devices.
  • Contribute to epidemic prevention activities.
  • Ensure rapid reporting of field information.
Experience Requirements
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience at national and/or international level in Water, Hygiene and Sanitation, public health, or social sciences, or other relevant programs.
  • Field experience in rural areas is strongly desired.
  • Experience working in a United Nations agency or other international development organization will be an asset.
Qualification Requirements

• Technical/vocational diploma in engineering, civil engineering, hydraulics, public health, environment, community development, or related field.
