Overview
This internship supports the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Kingston, Jamaica, by assisting with administrative tasks related to the Cartagena Convention Secretariat.
Key Responsibilities
- Collate monthly input for reports.
- Assist with engagement with the Bureau of the Cartagena Convention.
- Support the coordinator on engagements with partners and contracting parties.
- Assist with presentations for the Coordinator’s missions.
- Assist with supporting the Coordinator for participation in priority activities.
- Assist with the drafting of strategic documents.
- Assist in the preparation of relevant documentation and presentations.
- Collect information and undertake desk-based research.
Qualifications
- Applicants must, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent); or c. Have graduated with a university degree. Preferred Area of Study: academic background in environmental science, marine or coastal management, marine biology, ecology, environmental law, international relations, sustainable development, management, or related fields relevant to marine and coastal conservation and environmental governance. In addition:
- Demonstrate pleasant interpersonal skills.
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
- Has a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and has a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
