Overview
Provide communication support for UNFPA South Sudan's humanitarian work by engaging with media, developing multimedia content, and managing social media channels.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with media outlets to promote coverage of UNFPA humanitarian work.
- Identify and pitch compelling stories to media.
- Develop multimedia materials such as articles, photos, and videos.
- Support management of country social media channels.
- Draft press releases, fact sheets, and talking points.
- Prepare communications and visibility updates for humanitarian donors.
- Support advocacy initiatives and coordinate media engagement.
- Strengthen collaboration with UN Country Team communications colleagues.
- Establish and maintain relationships with media and strategic partners.
- Ensure coherence and consistency of messaging with the UNFPA Country Office communications team.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to implementing partners' communications focal points.
- Contribute to capacity strengthening of staff through knowledge-sharing and coaching.
- Perform any other related tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Required Experience
- At least 3 years of professional work experience in communications, public relations, journalism or advertising.
- Preferably some experience with public relations or information campaigns.
- Experience in or familiarity with a humanitarian setting is a major asset.
- Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills.
- Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners.
- Familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development.
- Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel.
- Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet.
- Familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment.
- Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines.
- Sound security awareness.
- Affinity with or interest in UNFPA Humanitarian Action, volunteerism, and the UN System.
Qualifications
• Master’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, advertising or related field.
