Overview
The internship supports the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in the methodological maintenance and analysis of indices related to productive capacities. The role involves assisting with data collection, analysis, and visualization for various projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Branch as well as UNCTAD Statistics Service in the methodological maintenance of the Productive Capacities Index (PCI).
- Assist the Branch in finalizing the satellite index specifically designed for Small Island Developing States (SIDS Satellite PCI).
- Assist the Branch in further analysing the correlations between the SIDS Satellite PCI and the Core PCI.
- Assist the Branch in elaborating the quantitative analysis for the National Productive Capacities Gap Assessments (NPCGA) of the Dominican Republic and Jamaica.
- Contribute to the data collection process for both existing PCI categories and newly proposed dimensions, and develop appropriate data collection mechanisms.
- Generate data visualization products, including infographics, and maps.
Required Experience
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
Qualifications
- Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
- University degree must be in statistics, economics, mathematics or another discipline with a substantively numerate component.
- Be capable of programming in R.
- Be proficient in standard software applications, including Excel and Word.
