Overview
The Environmental Affairs Officer will assist in planning and monitoring the implementation of Environmental Performance Reviews (EPRs) in specific countries and conduct research on related environmental issues.
Key Responsibilities
- - Plan, implement and monitor EPR reviews.
- - Schedule and participate in preparatory and review missions.
- - Assist in selecting and building up teams of international experts.
- - Liaise and coordinate with national experts, consultants, and international organizations.
- - Cooperate with government ministries, officials, and representatives of various organizations.
- - Assist in planning, organizing, and servicing meetings of the EPR Expert Group and intergovernmental processes.
- - Draft reports, policy papers, and meeting summaries.
- - Assist in organizing panels, round tables, and EPR launching events.
- - Participate in the analysis of environmental policy and management.
- - Evaluate frameworks and management practices.
- - Prepare recommendations based on research and interviews.
- - Participate in integrating and verifying report chapters and recommendations.
- - Prepare and contribute to publications, reports, documents, and communications.
- - Undertake on-the-job and other training activities.
- - Perform other related duties, including administrative tasks.
- - Represent the work unit at international meetings.
- - Prepare inputs for statements by secretariat staff.
- - Provide input to strategic framework reporting.
- - Prepare EPR highlights and press releases.
- - Provide substantive input for website content updates.
- - Support management on substantive and administrative issues.
Required Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in government service, research institutions or in international intergovernmental or non-governmental organizations on environment-related issues and/or sustainable development or related field is required. Experience working with countries of Eastern Europe, Caucasus or Central Asia is desirable. Experience in project/programme management and administration is desirable.
Qualifications
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in environmental management or economics, law, political science or related area. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
