Overview

The Social Policy Officer will provide technical support and assistance in social policy programming and advocacy, focusing on reducing child poverty, improving social protection, and enhancing child-focused public investments.


Key Responsibilities
  • Supports the collection, analysis, and presentation of data on child poverty and vulnerability.
  • Analyzes the macroeconomic context and its impact on social development and children.
  • Supports the development of social protection policies, legislation, and programmes.
  • Undertakes budget analysis to inform advocacy and technical assistance for equitable allocations for children's services.
  • Collaborates with authorities to improve policies, planning, budgeting, and accountability for child-focused social services.
  • Supports the use of data and evidence for advocacy and partnerships.
  • Supports management and coordination of technical assistance on child poverty, social protection, public finance, and governance.
Required Experience
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience with integrated Social Protection Programmes targeting the most vulnerable, ideally in rural contexts of the region.
  • Demonstrable professional experience in the Social Protection sector of Ethiopia, ideally related to the PSNP.
  • Extensive and applied knowledge of relevant Social Protection Policies in Ethiopia.
  • Demonstrable experience at national and regional levels regarding the effective design, implementation and monitoring of rural safety net programmes in Ethiopia.
  • Experience working in a developing country is considered as a strong asset.
  • Background and/or familiarity with emergency is considered as a strong asset.
  • Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
Qualifications

Bachelor or equivalent (First Level University Degree) in Economics, Social Science, Public Policy, International Relations, Political Science or another relevant technical field.
