Overview

The Country Coordinator leads UNV's engagement at the country level, ensuring effective anticipation and response to the needs of the UN system and partners by mobilizing qualified volunteers and promoting volunteerism across sectors.


Key Responsibilities
  • Lead volunteer mobilization strategies and support local talent outreach.
  • Develop and implement country-level volunteer mobilization strategies.
  • Participate in UN collective planning processes to integrate volunteerism.
  • Present UNV’s value proposition and guide partners in developing volunteer assignment descriptions.
  • Promote Online Volunteering.
  • Monitor mobilization trends and track key performance indicators.
  • Facilitate executive, operational, and partnership missions by UNV.
  • Build and sustain effective relationships with UN partners.
  • Analyze country strategies to identify opportunities for volunteer mobilization.
  • Maintain business intelligence on UN programming, funding and workforce trends.
  • Engage regularly with heads of agencies and senior staff.
  • Map and pursue SVF mobilization opportunities.
  • Engage with government, civil society, private sector, and development partners.
  • Support host entities with guidance and best practices.
  • Work closely with UNDSS and the UN Designated Official for security.
  • Ensure volunteers receive appropriate briefings, orientation, and guidance.
  • Brief volunteers on expected code of conduct.
  • Conduct regular field visits to volunteer locations and monitor volunteer well-being.
  • Facilitate regular engagement with and among volunteers.
  • Align communications with volunteer mobilization and talent acquisition goals.
  • Develop impactful volunteer stories.
  • Promote UNV at national, regional and global levels.
  • Stay informed of national volunteer initiatives, policies and strategies.
  • Stay informed of host countries’ aspirations to promote national volunteer talent.
  • Support implementation of UNV solutions.
  • Stay informed of International Volunteer Day and other volunteer recognition efforts.
  • Collaborate around respective activities.
  • Encourage volunteers to act as advocates.
  • Lead and coordinate the MCFU to ensure effective and efficient service delivery.
  • Supervise, empower and ensure performance and accountability of MCFU team members.
  • Develop, monitor, and manage the MCFU’s annual work plan and budget.
  • Liaise with UNDP programme and operations teams.
  • Ensure that the MCFU undertake assigned transactions in the Volunteer Management Cycle.
  • Escalate operational and reputational risks and other significant issues promptly to the RO.
Required Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years (with master’s degree) or 4 years (with bachelor’s degree) of relevant experience in humanitarian, development and/or peace-related field.
  • Experience in partnership building and management is essential.
  • Experience in advocacy, public relations, or communication is an asset.
  • Experience in programme reporting, monitoring and evaluation is an asset.
  • Experience in volunteer management and/or promotion of volunteerism is an asset.
  • Knowledge of national development situations in one or several of the assigned countries (Pacific) is highly desirable.
  • Experience in working in digital platforms and tools, including CRM and ERP systems is an asset.
  • Work experience with the United Nations is an asset.
Qualifications
  • Advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent), or
  • A first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience.
