Overview
The intern will support the Urban Lab of UN-Habitat in developing urban planning methods and systems, addressing current urbanization challenges and promoting urban planning approaches for expansion and transformation.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in urban planning and spatial analysis and mapping, with a focus on visual communication.
- Provide technical support for land use and strategic plans, diagnostic reports, and stakeholder engagement materials.
- Support drafting spatial plans, technical drawings, maps, and urban planning reports.
- Produce desk and field research on urban planning projects.
- Support data collection and qualitative/quantitative analysis for research workstreams.
- Insert and manipulate data in GIS systems.
- Develop graphic materials, reports, and publications.
- Assist in drafting and editing technical papers, reports, background documents, and concept notes.
- Support preparation of presentations and briefing materials.
- Ensure coherence of deliverables with UN-Habitat tools and frameworks.
- Support knowledge transfer and capacity-building activities.
- Undertake other assignments to support the unit’s work programmes.
Required Experience
- Experience working in urban planning using GIS is required.
- Knowledge of tools such as Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign is required.
- Knowledge of CAD software is required.
- Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
Qualifications
- Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent).
- Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent.
- Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
- Preferred areas of study: Urban Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Geography or related field that is relevant for sustainable urban development.
