Overview

The role involves providing programme support and communications assistance for environmental governance and peacebuilding initiatives in Somalia.


Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation of reports, briefing notes, talking points, and presentations.
  • Draft and/or edit desk-based research, written reports, policy briefs, and concept notes.
  • Assist in the development, review, and monitoring of project workplans, including supporting data collection and analysis.
  • Support communications and outreach activities by drafting newsletters, web stories, and social media content.
  • Draft content for reports, publications, and events.
  • Support graphic design of data visualizations, infographics, and factsheets.
  • Provide administrative and substantive support to meetings and events, including taking minutes.
  • Contribute to the organization of meetings, workshops, and field visits.
  • Attend project meetings and contribute to reporting processes.
  • Assist with logistics, scheduling, and coordination of team engagement.
  • Provide day-to-day programme and project management support.
  • Engage with Somali and international partners, as well as colleagues from across UNEP.
Required Experience

Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a graduate program + one year of experience in international development, environmental governance and peacebuilding, conflict studies, environmental studies, climate change, public policy, project management, or related field. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.

Qualifications

Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a graduate program. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme.

Knowledge of another UN language is an asset.

Remuneration
The Internship is UNPAID. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
