Overview

This internship focuses on urban law, supporting research, analysis, and project implementation within the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat). The role aims to contribute to the development of legal frameworks for sustainable urban development.


Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in conducting research and studies on urban law topics.
  • Provide backstopping support to ongoing and upcoming projects.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis and presentation of data.
  • Contribute to written outputs, draft background papers, reports, and studies.
  • Assist in the population and maintenance of the UrbanLex database.
  • Apply and enhance the Section's toolkits.
  • Contribute to the creation of communication materials and website updates.
  • Organize expert group meetings, consultative sessions, conferences, and other events.
  • Produce a personal project aligned with the Section's goals.
  • Undertake other duties as may be required.
Required Experience
  • Experience in carrying out research on urban law related to the thematic areas of urban planning, land, climate change, and housing, among others is required.
  • Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
Qualifications
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher),
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent),
  • Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent.
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Preferred areas of study: Studies in law, international relations, or diplomacy.

Languages Required
Fluency in oral and written English is required.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.

Remuneration
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
