Overview

This internship is within the Judicial Support and Cooperation Section (JSCS) of the International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism (IIIM). The legal intern will conduct legal research, assist in drafting legal documents, and monitor judicial and legislative developments.


Key Responsibilities
  • - Conducting legal research on domestic and international criminal law, human rights and public international law.
  • - Assisting Legal Officers in drafting or review of legal documents.
  • - Monitoring judicial proceedings and legislative developments relevant to the IIIM's work.
  • - Mapping legislative frameworks relevant to JSCS's work.
  • - Assisting JSCS colleagues in facilitating contributions to other Sections of the IIIM.
Required Experience

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.

Qualifications
  • - Enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
  • - OR enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • - Pursuing or have pursued a degree in areas related to law, international relations, human rights, political affairs or a related area.
  • - Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS Outlook, and MS Teams.

Languages Required
Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of Arabic is desirable. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
Contract Duration
2–3 months
Work Modality
in-person/flexible and full-time (40 hours per week), with possibility of hybrid or remote work modalities to be discussed with a successful candidate.
