Overview

This internship supports preparations for the International Conference on Space-based Technologies for Climate and Disaster Resilience. The role focuses on assisting with conference logistics, outreach materials, website maintenance, and communications.


Key Responsibilities
  • Assisting the Conference Secretariat in preparing and maintaining event materials, agendas, and background documents.
  • Designing and updating outreach materials (flyers, posters, digital banners, name badges, etc.) using Canva and other design tools.
  • Supporting the maintenance and regular updates of the conference website, including uploading content, managing event news, and ensuring consistency of information.
  • Assisting in communications with conference partners, speakers, and participants via email and online platforms.
  • Supporting data collection and analysis related to conference participants, partners, and outcomes.
  • Drafting and formatting outreach materials such as information notes, newsletters, and social media posts.
  • Preparing visual content (infographics, charts, graphs, short video clips, or multimedia posts) to highlight UN-SPIDER activities and conference updates.
  • Performing ad hoc research and assisting in report preparation as required.
Required Experience

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Experience using graphic design tools (e.g., Canva or similar). Familiarity with Disaster Risk Management and a strong interest in disaster risk reduction and early warning systems. Proficiency in standard computer software applications. Experience in organizing events such as trainings and workshops. Experience with Content Management Systems is considered an asset. Be computer literate in standard software applications; proficiency in preparing spreadsheets. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.

Qualifications

The basic education required is HS Diploma. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have recently completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme.

Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
Contract Duration
3 months with an opportunity for extension
Work Modality
Remote work is possible.
Remuneration
The internship is UNPAID and interns work five days per week (full time - 40 hours) unless other arrangements are requested during the interview and agreed to by the hiring office. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
