Overview

The Solid Waste Management Analyst will provide technical design and strategic guidance for integrated waste management interventions, and support the design and implementation of capacity building programs for project partners and stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities
  • Development, review, and refinement of strategies for waste reduction, collection, segregation, recycling, treatment, and final disposal.
  • Provision of technical recommendations to enhance efficiency, cost-effectiveness, environmental sustainability, and climate benefits of waste management systems.
  • Provision of technical advisory support on environmentally sound treatment options.
  • Support to the development of technical guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Ensuring that all technical designs and interventions comply with UNDP Social and Environmental Standards (SES) and relevant national regulations.
  • Development of technical training modules for multi-stakeholder, including waste workers, and informal sector actors.
  • Provision of on-the-job mentoring and technical coaching.
  • Promoting gender-responsive, inclusive, and safe working environments.
  • Identification of potential innovation approaches and design of piloting of innovative practices or technologies.
  • Provision of technical oversight and quality assurance during implementation.
  • Consolidation of field findings, technical progress, and recommendations into periodic progress reports and a final technical report.
  • Capture and document lessons learned and good practices.
  • Contribution to the preparation of knowledge products.
  • Support advocacy, communication, and outreach efforts.
  • Facilitate and organize training sessions and capacity-building activities.
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, and communities of practice.
  • Ensure all documentation and reporting highlight environmental, social, and gender outcomes.
  • Perform any other duties related to project monitoring, evaluation, and knowledge management as required.
Required Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years (with Master’s Degree) or 4 years (with Bachelor’s Degree) of relevant experience at the national or international level in the field of waste management and sustainability, waste management, recycling, circular economy initiatives or relevant field.
  • Experience and solid ability to work with a multidisciplinary and multicultural team.
  • Experience in the use of computers, office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and web-based management systems, and advanced knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages.
  • Desired: Experience in project management, understands/ familiar with the project based workplan/ providing project advisory services/ monitoring or evaluation.
  • Desired: Demonstrated experience in integrated solid waste management projects, including recycling systems, circular economy approaches, or environmentally sound waste treatment solutions.
  • Desired: Experience in coordinating with national and sub-national government institutions, line ministries, cross-ministerial bodies, and development partners.
  • Desired: Proven ability to effectively engage with multi-stakeholder groups.
  • Desired: Experience working with UNDP, other UN agencies, international organizations, or major donor-funded programmes.
Qualifications
  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in field of environmental management, waste management, engineering (e.g., chemical, civil, or mechanical engineering), or other relevant fields is required.
  • A first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree) in the above fields in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience will be given due consideration in lieu of the advanced university degree.
