Overview
The Biomedical Engineer will conduct substantive analysis and provide technical expertise for biomedical infrastructure projects, ensuring the successful planning, design, procurement, installation, and commissioning of medical gas systems and other biomedical equipment in health facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Infrastructure Team in planning, implementing, and monitoring biomedical infrastructure work packages, including medical gas systems.
- Assist in the development and implementation of Quality Management Plans (QMP), Health, Safety, Social and Environmental (HSSE) plans.
- Monitor progress and quality of biomedical engineering activities, report risks or deviations, and propose corrective measures.
- Contribute to regular progress reporting, documentation, and stakeholder updates.
- Conduct technical assessments of health facilities to determine readiness for biomedical infrastructure installation.
- Identify spatial, utility, and safety requirements for installation of biomedical systems.
- Support preparation of feasibility reports and technical options.
- Contribute to the design, design review, and technical validation of biomedical infrastructure.
- Prepare and/or review technical drawings, design reports, BoQs, and technical specifications.
- Provide technical input to the preparation and review of procurement documents.
- Assist in drafting and validating technical specifications, Bills of Quantities (BoQs), and performance requirements.
- Support the preparation of bidding documents.
- Participate in technical evaluation of bids and advise on compliance.
- Coordinate with procurement teams.
- Contribute to supplier and vendor queries during tendering processes.
- Supervise the installation of biomedical infrastructure.
- Conduct site visits to monitor physical works, verify progress, identify technical issues, and support timely resolution.
- Inspect materials, components, and installation works.
- Oversee commissioning and functional testing of biomedical installations.
- Review test protocols and results.
- Review commissioning reports, supervise training sessions for end users and maintenance personnel.
- Ensure proper archiving of technical records.
- Maintain organized and comprehensive documentation for all biomedical infrastructure and system installations.
- Capture lessons learned from medical gas and other biomedical projects and contribute to technical knowledge sharing.
- Support capacity building and training sessions for health facility staff and infrastructure team members.
- Participate in reviews and internal technical exchanges.
Required Experience
- Minimum of 4 years experience in biomedical engineering, including experience with medical gas systems.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in medical equipment system design, procurement, quality control, installation supervision, testing and commissioning.
- Desired: Experience working in international development or humanitarian settings.
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Biomedical Engineering or a related field.
- Desired: Master's degree or equivalent in Biomedical Engineering or a related field.
