Overview

The European Commission is seeking to hire a Statistical Assistant to provide IT support for social protection statistics and health finance. The role involves processing, validating, and disseminating annual data and metadata, as well as contributing to the improvement of statistical production processes.


Key Responsibilities
  • Contributing to and providing IT support to ensure the validation, processing and dissemination of the annual data and metadata including documenting their quality;
  • Active participation in the continuous improvement of the statistical production process and the development and testing of the statistical IT infrastructure;
  • Developing/extending the use of existing data in line with user needs;
  • Cooperating with the main institutional partners (both producers and users), including an active role in the annual expert group on social protection and the technical group on healthcare expenditure;
  • Collaborating closely with international organisations (OECD and WHO) that are collecting data based on the same methodology.
  • Contribution to methodological development work, data analysis and indicators’ production.
Required Experience
  • Proven experience in statistical production (required)
  • A relevant educational background in information technologies, statistics or economics (advantage)
  • Familiarity with Eurostat IT tools and standards (or a strong willingness to learn them)
  • Experience with MDT and/or SQL and/or SAS (or willingness to learn)
  • Basic knowledge of Java and R (advantage)
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset
  • A genuine interest in data; interest in social protection and public health is an asset
Qualifications
  • a level of post-secondary education attested by a diploma, or
  • a level of secondary education attested by a diploma giving access to post-secondary education, and appropriate professional experience of at least three years.

Languages Required
• have a thorough knowledge (minimum level C1) of one of the 24 official languages of the EU • AND a satisfactory knowledge (minimum level B2) of a second official language of the EU, to the extent necessary for the performance of the duties.

Contract Duration
The duration of the 1st contract will be of 1 to 4 years. The contract might then be extended only once for a maximum of 2 years.
Work Modality
The place of employment will be Luxembourg.
Remuneration
The pay of staff members consists of a basic salary supplemented with specific allowances, including, where applicable, expatriation and family allowances.
