Overview
This internship supports the Office of the Director, Civil Society Team, in engaging civil society with UN human rights mechanisms. The role assists in fulfilling the mission to protect and empower individuals regarding their human rights.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting in supporting the work of the Human Rights Council, its subsidiary bodies and Treaty Bodies and civil society's engagement with them
- Assisting in facilitating the organization of non-governmental organizations (NGO) related meetings
- Assisting with the review of NGO written statements, preparing notes and statistics
- Maintaining relevant database and webpages
- Drafting correspondence, conducting research, collecting and disseminating information
- Contributing to outreach and human rights mainstreaming initiatives
- Attending to queries/ requests from the Director, the Branch Chiefs and stakeholders
- Facilitating internal exchange of information and practices
- Assisting in the dissemination of information about the work of human rights mechanisms
- Undertaking research on issues of relevance to the work of the Division
- Assisting with collaborative work and activities organized with other Divisions, United Nations agencies and bodies
- Performing other related duties as appropriate
Required Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience.
Qualifications
- Graduate or enrolled in a graduate school programme (Master's degree or equivalent, or higher)
- Graduate or enrolled in the final academic year of a first-level university degree programme (Bachelor's degree or equivalent)
- Preferably in the area of law, political science, international relations, social sciences or a related field
