Overview

This internship is located within the Publication Team of the Treaty Section in the Office of Legal Affairs. The intern will support the team with administrative and research tasks.


Key Responsibilities
  • Collecting and compiling information on corrigenda and addenda in the United Nations Treaty Series;
  • Reviewing treaties to harmonize practices across units;
  • Creating glossaries for common treaty types;
  • Preparing reports on the publication practice of multilateral treaty depositaries, including the practice of specialized agencies;
  • Research and draft reports on historical practices to establish guidelines for future practice;
  • Review preliminary web-publications to ensure completeness and consistency with publication standards.
Qualifications
  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • Have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent); in a programme related to translation, publishing, document management or another field of study closely related to the work of the Treaty Section.

Languages Required
Fluency in spoken and written English and French is required.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of another United Nations official language, i.e. Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish, would be an advantage.
Contract Duration
A minimum of two months internship with a possibility of extension of up to a maximum of six months.

Remuneration
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
