Overview
The internship is situated within the UN Operations and Crisis Center (UNOCC) to support the UNOCC pipeline and data warehouse workstream. The role involves building, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining data pipelines to standardize and systematize data access for analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, test, troubleshoot and maintain Python data pipelines.
- Write Python scripts to gather data from UN internal and external sources and harmonize disparate datasets.
- Clean and transform raw data into tabular, aggregated formats.
- Setup automatic synchronization between data sources and the UNOCC data warehouse.
- Make up-to-date, quality-checked and reliable data easier available for UNOCC analysis processes.
- Collaborate with analysts to understand data needs and fix and improve existing pipelines.
- Investigate and identify novel data sources that can inform crisis analytics and decision-making.
Required Experience
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
Qualifications
- Be enrolled in, or have recently completed (within the last year), a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
- OR be enrolled in, or have completed (within the last year), the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
- Field of study must be closely related to Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, Information Management, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics.
