Overview
The Senior Fishery Officer (Aquaculture Technology) role focuses on leading and implementing policies and programmes to maximize the positive impacts of aquaculture on economic, social, and environmental objectives, aligning with the FAO Strategic Framework.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and implement policies and programmes for aquaculture.
- Analyze global and country-specific requirements and technical issues.
- Implement and monitor programmes of work, including developing strategies and tools.
- Conduct, design, and oversee research and analysis activities.
- Provide technical and policy advice to Members and Decentralized Offices.
- Lead and/or collaborate in capacity development and knowledge sharing activities.
- Represent the Organization at international meetings and conferences.
- Lead and/or participate in resource mobilization activities.
- Develop and lead a programme of work on marine, brackish and freshwater aquaculture.
- Lead the implementation of the Blue Transformation Roadmap.
- Lead aquaculture technology innovations, digitalization, and smart technologies.
- Lead the development of the multidisciplinary programme on aquaculture and associated knowledge products.
- Secure extra-budgetary funds.
Required Experience
- Ten years of relevant experience in aquaculture research, aquaculture extension and development, aquatic environmental research and/or management, aquaculture economics or related field.
- Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions, is essential.
- Extent and relevance of experience or knowledge of and in provision of scientific support and advice to national, regional and international aquaculture network in both developed and developing countries.
- Extent and relevance of experience in planning and implementation of research and/or development programmes in aquaculture or aquatic ecosystem management.
- Depth of knowledge of current global issues, trends, constraints, and research needs related to sustainable aquaculture governance, policy, science and innovation.
- Extent and relevance of experience in different countries and regions, especially in developing countries and countries in transition.
- Ability to mobilize resources.
- Extent and relevance of experience in organizing international meetings, seminars and training courses.
Qualifications
• Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in biology, aquaculture, aquatic sciences, environmental sciences, fisheries/ aquaculture economics or related discipline.
