Overview

Manage the Staff Health and Well-being unit to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all WHO staff by implementing occupational health and safety policies and support services.


Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the Staff Health and Well being unit, including strategic objectives, operational workplans, budget, and human resources.
  • Act as the Principal Coordinator of occupational health across the organization.
  • Design Health Promotion Programmes.
  • Monitor health risks affecting the WHO workforce.
  • Contribute to fostering an inclusive workplace.
  • Oversee medical evacuations and emergency medical responses.
  • Provide advice on compensation claims and staff pension matters.
  • Advise on special allowances for health reasons.
  • Represent the Director on medical boards and committees.
  • Advise on the technical supervision of regional medical teams.
  • Advise on UN medical services in the context of outbreaks and epidemics.
Required Experience
  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in general or internal medicine, including experience in an international context.
  • Candidates must not have interrupted their medical practice for more than one year.
  • At least five years of successful experience managing medical and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Desirable experience includes emergency management, travel medicine, occupational health assessments, sick leave management, return to work processes, workplace inclusion, working with UN agencies and international NGOs, managing electronic patient record systems, knowledge of organizational policies, administrative management of a medical service, addressing medical and psychosocial needs of humanitarian workers, strong analytical skills, and experience in strategic planning and change management.
Qualifications
  • Essential: An advanced University degree (Master's level or above) in Medicine.
  • Essential: License to practice medicine from any jurisdiction.
  • Desirable: Additional certification in a broad range of related fields, such as occupational health, training, stress management, conflict resolution, or cross-cultural communication.

Remuneration
• Annual base salary starting at USD 103,165 (subject to mandatory deductions). • Variable post adjustment, currently amounting to USD 7686 per month. • Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
