Overview

Assists in data exploration, acquisition, and analysis using data science methods to support programmatic areas, including work related to missing persons in Syria. Contributes to the design and development of data science products to reveal insights and provides an understanding of data through advanced analytical methods.


Key Responsibilities
  • Assists in the exploration, identification, and acquisition of diverse and complex data sources.
  • Applies quality methods to structure, clean, format, parse, and standardize data for analysis.
  • Contributes to the application of data science methods to support programmatic areas.
  • Contributes to the design and develops data science products to reveal insights.
  • Contributes to the analysis of large volumes of data to identify patterns, relationships and relevant insights.
  • Develops analytical outputs and visualization products to communicate findings.
  • Guides, trains and supervises general service staff in the function.
Required Experience
  • A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in data science, data analytics, applied mathematics, information management or related area is required.
  • Experience of data Science and statistical programming tools and languages (e.g., Python, R, Jupyter, MATLAB, SPSS, SAS or similar) is desirable.
  • Experience with data manipulation, analysis and visualization (e.g., pandas, Power BI, Tableau or similar tools) is desirable.
  • Experience with natural language processing (NLP) tools and working with large volumes of structured and unstructured data is desirable.
  • Experience with document review platforms (e.g., Relativity or similar tools) and OCR or text extraction from PDFs and images is desirable.
  • Experience with databases and data storage concepts (e.g., SQL or NoSQL) is desirable.
  • Experience working with or analyzing data related to Syria, including political, humanitarian or human rights contexts is desirable.
Qualifications

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in data science, information management, statistics, public administration, public information, management or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
