Overview

The Data Scientist will support peacekeeping operations by monitoring, analyzing, and responding to mis/dis/malinformation and hate speech. The role involves extracting insights from complex datasets and developing technology solutions for digital information environment analysis.


Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze large, complex datasets to extract insights.
  • Prepare reports communicating trends and patterns using data and visualizations.
  • Ensure data integrity and compliance with privacy regulations.
  • Work with stakeholders to identify opportunities for leveraging data.
  • Mine and analyze data to optimize programme development, advocacy, and business strategies.
  • Assess the effectiveness of new data sources and gathering techniques.
  • Develop technology solutions for monitoring and analyzing the digital information environment.
  • Use predictive modeling to optimize experiences and business outcomes.
  • Develop A/B testing framework and test model quality.
  • Coordinate with functional teams to implement models and monitor outcomes.
  • Develop processes and tools to monitor model performance and data accuracy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Experience

A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in data science, data analytics, applied mathematics, information management or related area is required. Experience developing technology solutions related to mis/disinformation is required. Experience in developing and providing training on analysis of the digital information environment is required. Experience of data Science tools such as Jupyter, Matlab, Knime, SPSS, SAS, or similar Statistical Programming Languages such as R, Python, Javascript or related is desirable. Experience in using data to advance decisions, strategies and execution is desirable. Experience within the UN system is desirable.

Qualifications

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in data science, computer science, information management, statistics, public administration, public information, management or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
