Overview

The Protection Assistant will carry out field-based activities in line with Protection Information principles and Standard Operating Principles, including individual interviews, focus group discussions, and community engagement. The role supports the development of protection monitoring information sharing products and provides protection services.


Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out effective protection monitoring activities and/or other assessments.
  • Keep an updated contextual understanding of areas covered under protection sector activities.
  • Monitor and share trends for analysis of the protection situation and environment.
  • Support the development of protection monitoring products, including reports.
  • Implement DRC’s protection monitoring/protection assessments.
  • Share information to allow awareness of and response to developments, emergencies, and population movements.
  • Monitor the provision of services in areas of operation and report on findings.
  • Participate in the implementation of general protection activities such as outreach, information dissemination, psychosocial support, and case management.
  • Build strong rapport with community members.
  • Represent DRC to communities.
  • Contribute to coordination with other DRC sectors.
  • Ensure professional standards and transparent communication with communities.
  • Ensure interactions with beneficiaries and community groups respect and promote safety, agency, and dignity.
  • Provide inputs in planning and coordination of logistics and movements.
  • Support the coordination of program activities as they relate to logistics, administration, finances, or security.
  • Comply with relevant internal policies and directives.
Required Experience
  • At least 1 year of professional experience in humanitarian interventions, MHPSS programming, human rights, civil society, communication, or community development, preferably with an international humanitarian organization.
  • Experience in data collection, research or analysis.
  • Experience in identifying and responding to needs of particularly vulnerable individuals and groups based on field work, protection, age, gender, and diversity analysis and other criteria.
Qualifications

• University Degree in social sciences, humanitarian affairs, development, or any other related field.

Languages Required
• Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English.
Languages Preferred
• Knowledge of French and other languages are considered as asset
