Overview
This internship supports the development of a scalable, data-driven website for the UN's flagship public internet website, www.un.org, and related sub-sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development of a scalable, data-driven website by contributing to both back-end and front-end tasks.
- Assist with automated web data collection using Python and Scrapy.
- Contribute to JavaScript-based front-end features and user interactions.
- Participate in version-controlled collaboration using Git.
- Assist in content formatting, layout optimization, and integration of visuals such as graphics, photos, and videos.
- Support light video editing (e.g., subtitles/audio) or creation of short clips as needed.
- Utilize web and multimedia tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, HTML, CSS, WordPress, or Drupal.
Required Experience
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
Qualifications
- Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
- Applicants must also: - Be computer literate in standard software applications - Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter - Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
- Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Teams.
