Overview

The Associate External Relations Officer will strengthen external relations, enhance communication and visibility of the operation, support resource mobilization, and reinforce inter-agency coordination and advocacy.


Key Responsibilities
  • - Assist in the implementation of a communications strategy.
  • - Assist in the dialogue with donors and embassies.
  • - Disseminate information on UNHCR's global funding situation and mobilize additional funds.
  • - Assist in the coordination of drafting situation reports, briefing notes, and press releases.
  • - Draft narrative and financial reports on contributions.
  • - Monitor earmarking level of funding and ensure appropriate visibility for donor contributions.
  • - Participate in inter-agency cooperation and communication strategies.
  • - Assist in the management of information flows within country operations.
  • - Consolidate information on UNHCR's country operations and identify appropriate messages for campaigns and appeals.
  • - Propose events and initiatives to promote UNHCR's work.
  • - Support the management of media relations.
  • - Promote visibility of UNHCR's work and advocate for support for displaced and stateless persons.
  • - Organize missions to the field and press briefings for external parties.
  • - Implement all aspects of a communications strategy.
  • - Represent UNHCR in fundraising and communication priorities in inter-agency initiatives.
  • - Support the identification and management of risks and opportunities.
  • - Perform other related duties as required.
Required Experience
  • 3 years relevant experience with Undergraduate degree; or 2 years relevant experience with Graduate degree; or 1 year relevant experience with Doctorate degree.
  • Experience in humanitarian operations in a field environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of local institution, politics and culture.
  • Fundraising and programming/programme management experience (desirable).
  • Experience of working with social media (desirable).
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree; or Graduate degree; or Doctorate degree.
  • Field(s) of Education: Political Sciences, Social Sciences, International Relations, Journalism, Communications or other relevant field.
  • Bachelor of Arts: Communication, Bachelor of Arts: International Relations, Bachelor of Arts: Journalism, Bachelor of Arts: Political Science, Bachelor of Arts: Social Science.
