Overview

The Climate Risks and Agrometeorologist Specialist will analyze climate-related hazards and trends to strengthen a national project for submission to the Green Climate Fund, focusing on climate resilience in agriculture and livelihoods.


Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and synthesize climate data (historical and future) for the agricultural sector.
  • Study agricultural production trends and assess climate change impacts.
  • Review climate indicators, extremes, and impacts on agriculture.
  • Collect and synthesize biophysical and socio-economic data and vulnerability assessments.
  • Review climate risks at the regional level.
  • Collect and analyze loss and damage data related to climate hazards.
  • Review weather-informed advisories for the agricultural sector.
  • Advise on integrating climate risk considerations into the Funding Proposal.
  • Develop crop suitability maps assessing climate change impacts using analytical impact-based frameworks.
Required Experience
  • At least five (5) years of relevant experience in climate change adaptation, with demonstrated experience in agrometeorology, climate risk analysis, and/or climate impacts on agriculture, water resources, or food systems.
  • Experience working with UN agencies is an advantage.
Qualifications
  • Advanced university degree from an institution recognized by the International Association of Universities (IAU)/UNESCO in climate science, environmental sciences, agricultural climatology, natural resource management, or a related field relevant to the assignment.
  • Consultants with a bachelor's degree need two additional years of relevant professional experience.
