Overview

The incumbent will carry out a variety of secretarial and administrative duties in support of the work of the section, in particular in relation to model courses.


Key Responsibilities
  • Support Secretariat functions related to the STCW Convention and Code, and model course development and revision process, including preparation, editing and finalization of documentation.
  • Support work during phase 2 of the comprehensive review of the STCW Convention and Code.
  • Support the development and revision of model courses, including monitoring, coordination, proofreading, editing of technical documents, and carrying out SAP functions.
  • Prepare documentation as assigned.
  • Assist with implementation of model course related activities and perform administrative and support functions.
  • Provide administrative support to relevant projects, technical cooperation activities, and technical advisory and needs assessment missions.
  • Undertake other related duties as may be required.
Required Experience

At least 5 years’ experience in secretarial or administrative work, preferably within the UN system. Similar support experience in an international organization would be an added advantage.

Qualifications

Secondary education or equivalent to university entrance standard is essential. Formal secretarial training will be a distinct advantage.

Proficiency in English and ability to draft clearly and concisely is essential.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of any other UN language, particularly French or Spanish, would be an advantage.
Contract Duration
The first year of contract will be probationary with the possibility of further extension subject to satisfactory performance.

Remuneration
Approximately £43,490 net per annum, (subject to deductions), free of income tax in the UK. Excellent benefits including medical insurance and UN pension scheme.
