Overview

The intern will support the UNFPA Maldives Country Office team in strategic communications initiatives, including contributing to website content, conducting interviews, crafting editorials, and managing social media platforms. The role also involves assisting in the implementation of the communication and advocacy strategy.


Key Responsibilities
  • Drafting and editing content for UNFPA platforms, including news stories, human-interest stories, website updates, briefs, captions, and social media copy;
  • Supporting the collection and organization of quotes, key messages, and background information for stories and communications packages;
  • Contributing to UNFPA 50 years storytelling and visibility materials, such as short profiles, impact snapshots, story leads, timelines, and social media series;
  • Supporting the development and maintenance of a content calendar and posting schedule;
  • Assisting in preparing posts for social media channels, including formatting, captioning, and coordination of translations where relevant;
  • Supporting communications preparation for events, including invitations, agendas, talking points packs, media notes, live coverage support, and post-event highlights;
  • Supporting media monitoring and compilation of weekly or monthly coverage summaries, and organizing communications assets and internal trackers;
  • Providing administrative support for routine communications workflows, including minutes, filing, consolidating comments, formatting documents and presentations, and other relevant tasks as required.
Required Experience

Some experience working with development agencies, including in a volunteer capacity, is an asset.

Qualifications

Candidates must be enrolled in a bachelor’s or postgraduate degree programme in Communications, Journalism, International Relations, Public Relations, Marketing, Development Studies, Health, or a related field; or have graduated within the last 12 months.

Remuneration
Interns do not receive a salary or any other form of remuneration from UNFPA. However, they receive a stipend to help cover basic daily expenses related to the internship, if not financially supported by any institution or programme. The stipend is based on the intern’s agreed place of work. The stipend is normally paid in local currency at the end of each month.
