Overview
The Coordination Assistant will support the integration of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and climate resilience actions into development efforts for tribal communities, aligning UNICEF and UN system interventions with government priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Support mapping of UNICEF's and other UN Agencies ongoing and planned interventions in tribal districts.
- Assist in identifying gaps and opportunities to ensure programs are culturally sensitive and inclusive.
- Support documenting programming in conflict areas and key interventions.
- Support in liaising with tribal community leaders, youth groups and local civil society organizations.
- Assist in aligning UNICEF initiatives with government schemes.
- Support in assessing the situation analysis of PVTGs and their access to social protection.
- Facilitate and participate in inter-agency coordination meetings.
- Assist in documenting shared priorities and action points.
- Assist in integrating DRR principles into youth-focused and tribal-area programming.
- Support implementation of Chief Minister School Safety Program.
- Map traditional knowledge and indigenous practices related to environmental conservation, climate change and disaster preparedness.
- Support the formation and training of Youth Volunteer Clubs.
- Facilitate youth-led initiatives and campaigns on climate action and community resilience.
- Assist in preparing meeting agendas, minutes, and tracking action items.
- Contribute to drafting periodic reports, briefs and presentations.
- Proactively learn about volunteerism concepts.
- Research and document local forms of volunteerism.
- Write articles, field experiences or case studies for the UNV website, newsletters and local media.
- Serve as a ‘Buddy’ for newly arrived UN Volunteers.
- Encourage local NGOs and youth groups to use the UNV Online Volunteering service.
- Undertake field visits to monitor activities, engage with communities and gather firsthand information.
- Perform any other relevant duties assigned by the supervisor.
Required Experience
- Experience of working on projects related to disaster management, tribal /youth development or Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- Demonstrated interest in DRR, tribal, youth, social and developmental issues with understanding of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is desirable.
- Sound understanding of youth related challenges would be an asset.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Social work, Social Sciences, Humanities, Law, Rural Management, Political Sciences or other relevant fields.
