Overview

The intern will support the work of the CEB Secretariat by researching and analysing issues of strategic importance and assisting in the preparation of meetings.


Key Responsibilities
  • Researching and analysing issues of strategic importance for the Secretary-General and/or the United Nations system, including sustainable development, global governance, UN reform, poverty eradication, climate change;
  • Following and analysing current affairs with regard to relevant topics for the different workstreams of the High-level Committee on Programmes (HLCP), including UN preparedness for the future, the post-2030 agenda and related issues;
  • Assisting in the monitoring and analysis of the work of UN intergovernmental bodies, including meetings of the 81st session of the General Assembly and its main committees, as well as ECOSOC and its functional commissions, on a wide variety of issues;
  • Contributing to the substantive and organizational preparation of the meetings of CEB and HLCP;
  • Drafting correspondence and other communication;
  • Creating content for the CEB corporate website (www.unsceb.org);
  • Undertaking other tasks as required.
Required Experience

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Experience or exposure to UN system-wide coordination, policy-making and decision-making would be an advantage. Experience or exposure in the area of interlinkages between peace and security, human rights and sustainable development and/or the current challenges facing the multilateral system would be an asset.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants must be a student in the final year of a first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Applicants' field of study should be related to international relations, public administration, governance and/or sustainable development.

Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.

6 months
Work Modality
in person and full-time, but flexible work arrangements at the duty station may be an option
Remuneration
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
