Overview

The intern will support the Economic Analysis and Policy Division in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs by providing research and analysis on macroeconomic topics and policy issues for the World Economic Situation and Prospects publication.


Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct background research and literature reviews on macroeconomic developments, policies, and sustainable development.
  • Conduct quantitative data analysis, including identifying, collecting, and visualizing macroeconomic data, and conducting basic economic modelling.
  • Assist in updating and improving economic models.
  • Assist in the organization of policy seminars or expert group meetings, prepare background materials, provide logistical support, and assist in drafting summary reports.
  • Support the team in day-to-day activities, including servicing information requests, developing presentations, and updating databases.
  • Prepare a presentation on the work or findings of the internship.
Required Experience

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. A field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. Applicants must have working knowledge of statistical/econometric software such as Stata, Eviews or R. Proven experience in using large-scale datasets and descriptive statistics is desirable.

Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.

Remuneration
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
