Overview

The Staff Officer (Data Scientist) role supports the development of data utilization projects and manages data integration pipelines for JFCBS Operations. The primary purpose is to enhance operational workflow and decision-making through advanced data analytics and AI.


Key Responsibilities
  • Support the development of data utilization projects by engaging with JFCBS Divisions to identify user problems and workflow degradations.
  • Create applications to better support JFCBS personnel's operational workflow.
  • Build and maintain the Decision Advantage Environment (DAE) briefing tool within NATO-MSS.
  • Ensure efficient data retrieval and augmentation processes to support Large Language Model (LLM) training and inference.
  • Collaborate with NATO MSS Engineers to optimize data pipelines for LLM performance and accuracy.
  • Develop and maintain semantic and ontology data layers to enhance data integration and retrieval.
  • Implement data quality checks and validation processes to ensure data accuracy and reliability.
  • Monitor and optimize the performance of data pipelines and infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of data pipelines, processes, and infrastructure.
Required Experience
  • Minimum 12 months of hands-on professional experience working with enterprise data operating systems such as Palantir Foundry.
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience managing enterprise data within digital transformation and data analytics initiatives.
  • Minimum 2 years professional experience using generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) frameworks, Natural Language Processing (NLP) libraries, and/or retrieval-based solutions (e.g., LLMs, Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) workflows).
Qualifications
  • University Degree or equivalent in relevant field / discipline.
  • (equivalent is Higher Secondary Education AND completed advanced vocational training in relevant field leading to a professional certification or accreditation).
Other Details
Languages Required
English – good – NATO Standard Language Proficiency 3333 (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing) in accordance with NATO standard agreement (STANAG) 6001.
Languages Preferred
Proficiency in Python or equivalent coding discipline. Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB). Experience with data pipelines for LLM workflows, including data retrieval, augmentation and optimisation. Experience with semantic and ontology data layers and their application in data integration and retrieval. Experience writing and maintaining coding and software documentation. Completion of relevant courses/training.
