Overview
The Protection Team Leader will be responsible for ensuring the quality, efficiency, and timely implementation of protection activities in Debark, Ethiopia. This includes planning, coordinating, and supervising field-level interventions and overseeing protection responses.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical guidance on protection standards and guidelines.
- Guide the implementation of protection monthly reports and info hubs.
- Lead or contribute to protection/multisectoral assessments and mappings.
- Ensure a strong service mapping is developed and referral pathways are created.
- Provide material for information dissemination and awareness raising.
- Develop and deliver protection training to staff, partners, and stakeholders.
- Take lead during protection need and conflict sensitivity assessment.
- Support protection program development and proposal development.
- Oversee the mainstreaming of gender-sensitive and inclusive approaches.
- Ensure protection activities promote social cohesion, conflict resolution, and community resilience.
- Ensure quality monitoring and evaluation of protection activities.
- Support staff to integrate protection concerns in other sectors.
- Manage and technically supervise Protection officers and assistants.
- Promote team building and a positive working environment.
- Plan and oversee protection activities, producing work and activity plans.
- Coordinate inputs from logistics and finance units.
- Ensure implementation of protection activities according to program commitments.
- Identify training and capacity building opportunities for staff.
- Attend and contribute to relevant coordination mechanisms.
- Ensure ethical data collection and protection-related information management systems.
- Lead in activity planning and procurement of protection-related goods and services.
- Maintain detailed tracking of protection related spending and participate in budget management meetings.
- Ensure regular reporting for internal and donor purposes.
- Develop and maintain working relationships with key stakeholders.
- Represent DRC in coordination meetings and working groups.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the manager.
Required Experience
3 years of experience working with conflict affected/displaced populations and familiarity with displacement dynamics, legal frameworks and humanitarian response related to forced displacement. A minimum of 2 years of management or technical protection experience working for an international NGO, UN agency or relevant ministry or authority. Experience working as a Protection team leader and prior experience on protection is an asset. Experience in working in the current project area is an additional asset. Demonstrated professional experience leading protection, peace building gender and human rights related activities in the context of the project location.
Qualifications
Advanced degree in International Law, Development Studies, Political Science, Psychology, social work or any Social Sciences or relevant field from a recognized institution.
