Overview
The Health Manager, UN Clinic Physician will provide medical services to UN staff and their dependents, manage the UN Clinic, and facilitate medical evacuations. The role involves clinical duties, medical administrative duties, and supervisory administration.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to acute emergencies and provide primary stabilization.
- Undertake day-to-day clinical duties, including consultations, examinations, and health education.
- Diagnose and recommend treatment for patients visiting the UN Clinic.
- Be on call for emergencies and undertake house calls when required.
- Arrange for hospital appointments, transportation, and recommend medical evacuation.
- Liaise with other clinics and medical facilities.
- Follow UN policies regarding medical clearances, sick leave, and medical evacuations.
- Manage paperwork and reporting procedures for medical evacuations.
- Establish and maintain relations with hospitals, private medical facilities, and blood banks.
- Ensure proper and confidential medical record keeping.
- Provide evaluations for medical insurance claims.
- Manage day-to-day mission medical support operations, ensuring availability of supplies and functioning equipment.
- Implement appropriate training programs for medical staff.
- Support the implementation of the UN HIV PEP program.
- Participate in clinical diagnosis and management of HIV infection.
- Participate in training and continuing medical education on HIV/AIDS management.
- Supervise and distribute work for clinic staff.
- Oversee workplace health and medical service communication and outreach.
- Advise senior management on healthcare matters.
- Represent the medical service on health and medical entitlements matters.
- Ensure occupational health representation at the local committee.
- Participate in UN Cares activities, including training and dissemination of UN policies on HIV/AIDS.
- Participate in emergency drills and mass casualty exercises.
- Provide briefings and information releases to staff on health-related issues.
Required Experience
Minimum 5 years (with Master’s degree) or 7 years (with Bachelor’s degree) of relevant experience and practice in general medicine in developing countries or countries in conflict, of which at least two years in Trauma and Emergency care; Residency and/or internship in one of the medical specialties preferably internal medicine or family medicine is required; Two years of experience in the occupational health field is highly desirable; Two years of managerial experience in the medical field, including budgeting, supervisory responsibilities and resource management are required; Previous UN medical system/international medical experience with priority in international tasks is highly desirable; Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) is required.
Qualifications
Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in medicine from an accredited university and currently licensed to practice within home country or another national jurisdiction. A first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree) in the above field in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience will be given due consideration in lieu of the advanced university degree. Valid certification in Advanced Trauma Life support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support or Pre-hospital trauma life support is required. Certification in HIV care or VCCT is desirable.
