Overview
The Community Mobilizer organizes community entry engagements and meetings to ensure understanding and acceptance of project goals. The role builds relationships between Save the Children and the community, monitors child protection interventions, and supports the establishment of community mobilization teams and child protection mechanisms.
Key Responsibilities
- Organize community entry engagements and meetings.
- Engage with gatekeepers and leaders.
- Build relationships between Save the Children and the community.
- Monitor Child Protection interventions and psychosocial support activities.
- Support the establishment of Community mobilization teams and community based Child Protection Mechanisms.
- Conduct awareness raising activities.
- Engage community members to participate in MYRP program activities.
- Mobilize parents and guardians to send their children to school.
- Engage in community dialogues.
- Work with community mobilization teams to identify priority issues/ barriers to access to education and child protection and safeguarding issues.
- Steer the community to develop community action plans.
- Implement action plans.
- Monitor and evaluate the implementation of action plans.
- Mobilize communities to play an effective role in protecting the rights of children.
- Liaise with community leaders and parents to introduce program activities and encourage community involvement.
- Establish and strengthen Community engagement.
- Guide community mobilisation teams in planning, implementing and evaluation of key community action plans.
- Conduct/attend meetings and record minutes.
- Follow up on action plans.
- Ensure Community Based Child Protection Networks (CBCPN) are supported to conduct community-based awareness raising activities on CP issues.
- Support CBCPN members to promote the inclusion of marginalized and minority groups and ensure meaningful child participation.
- Establish and strengthen Child and Youth clubs and provide mentoring and support.
- Support in establishing activities in CFS or Community Centres.
- Provide ongoing monitoring, support and capacity building to facilitators.
- Ensure community-based networks coordinate with each other, CFSs, Child and Youth clubs and other committees.
- Support in conducting needs assessment in target and surrounding communities.
- Monitor, identify and refer child protection issues as per agreed interagency protocols and procedures.
Required Experience
- Minimum of 3 years sectoral (child protection) experience in a similar position.
- Experience working and communicating with Children.
- Previous NGO experience, including an understanding of the neutral status of an international NGO (Desirable).
- Good understanding of community politics and traditional networks in Abyei (Desirable).
Qualifications
University degree preferably in Social work or other relevant social sciences (OR Diploma in these fields if person has worked in a similar position and has the required skills and experience).
