Overview

Provides executive and administrative support to a Judge of the International Court of Justice, ensuring smooth and efficient operations of the Judge's office.


Key Responsibilities
  • Manage calendars and inform Judges about office administrative tasks.
  • Prepare documentation for meetings and act as a contact for administrative requests.
  • Review, prioritize, and route correspondence in English and/or French and/or Dutch.
  • Prepare routine correspondence and review documents for accuracy.
  • Assist with the preparation and organization of documentation for judicial work.
  • Compile information and download legal articles.
  • Maintain legal reference collections and update databases.
  • Assist in matters pertaining to administrative, financial, travel, and diplomatic affairs.
  • Calendarize the Judge’s interactions with various entities.
  • Organize visits and events involving the diplomatic community and high-ranking officials.
  • Provide support in dealings with local government and municipal offices.
  • Assist in onboarding and post-separation logistics for Judges.
  • Assist in HR administration activities, including recruitment and onboarding.
  • Organize ICJ tours and support high-level meetings and events.
  • Provide informal translations of legal or academic documents in English and French.
Required Experience

A minimum of seven (7) years of relevant and progressively responsible experience in a professional and/or international environment, supporting senior executives is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five (5) years for candidates who possess a first university degree. Experience in the use of computer applications and software packages such as Microsoft Office is required. A solid understanding and etiquette and diplomatic protocol is desirable. Experience in a legal/judicial environment is desirable. Familiarity with the United Nations Common System or similar international organizations is desirable.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent is required. A university degree is an asset.

English UN Level III (Advanced) in reading, writing, listening, and speaking is required. French UN Level II (Intermediate) in reading, writing, listening, and speaking is required. OR French UN Level III (Advanced) in reading, writing, listening, and speaking is required and English UN Level II (Intermediate) in reading, writing, listening, and speaking is required.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of other official languages of the United Nations or Dutch would be an asset. Arabic UN Level I in reading, writing, listening, and speaking is desirable. Chinese (Mandarin) UN Level I in reading, writing, listening, and speaking is desirable. Russian UN Level I in reading, writing, listening, and speaking is desirable. Spanish UN Level I in reading, writing, listening, and speaking is desirable. Dutch UN Level I in reading, writing, listening, and speaking is desirable.

Remuneration
Depending on professional background, experience and family situation, a competitive compensation and benefits package is offered.
