Overview

Support the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in redirecting public finance towards climate, nature, and pollution actions, and contribute to the work of UNEP Finance Initiative (FI).


Key Responsibilities
  • Researching state of sustainable finance and investment trends for priority countries.
  • Supporting engagement of Finance Ministries in the roll out of the Guide of Coalition of Finance Ministers on Climate Change.
  • Researching tools and methodologies for assessing risks from Nature impacts of investments.
  • Creating a database of Central Bank contact points and analysis of policies and regulations on climate and nature risk assessment.
  • Research and Analysis of Nature taxonomies globally and their adoption/use in the region.
  • Support organization of two webinars for NZNP taxonomy developed by UNEP-FI.
Required Experience

Prior experience in climate change and financing would be an advantage. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.

Qualifications

Applicants must be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants must be currently enrolled in or recently graduated (within 1 year) from Master’s, or Ph.D. programme with a focus on Finance, Climate Change Financing or related area. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme.

Languages Required
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
Languages Preferred
Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams is desirable. Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts is desirable. Ability to design surveys and polls is desirable.

Remuneration
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
