Overview
This role involves operating and maintaining medium voltage distribution networks to ensure a safe, reliable, and efficient electricity supply across UNMISS locations. The engineer will focus on implementing maintenance activities, complying with safety standards, and improving network performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor MV distribution systems, including feeders, substations, transformers, and switchgear.
- Perform switching operations in accordance with approved operational and safety procedures.
- Monitor load profiles, voltage levels, and overall system performance.
- Develop and execute preventive and corrective maintenance plans for MV equipment.
- Identify and troubleshoot MV network faults and equipment failures.
- Coordinate and participate in periodic testing, servicing, and inspection of MV equipment.
- Lead fault investigations and implement corrective actions.
- Collaborate with teams to plan and execute outages and system restorations.
- Participate in testing, commissioning, and energization of new MV installations.
- Support network upgrades and expansion projects.
- Ensure adherence to electrical safety standards and promote a strong safety culture.
- Prepare and submit technical reports.
- Maintain accurate records of operational logs and maintenance schedules.
- Check availability of medium voltage components and propose acquisitions.
Required Experience
A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in medium voltage transmission system is required. Technical knowledge of MV systems (11kV–33kV), substations, protection systems, distribution network equipment and international electrical safety standards is required.
Qualifications
A minimum of Diploma in Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline is required.
