Overview
The Donor Acquisition Officer will manage and develop MSF Portugal's offline donor acquisition programme, focusing on designing, managing, and optimising campaigns across various fundraising channels to increase donor recruitment and long-term value.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the day-to-day management and continuous development of MSF Portugal's offline donor acquisition programme.
- Translate strategic priorities into annual operational plans, acquisition campaigns and programme activities.
- Design, manage and continuously optimise donor acquisition activities across all offline fundraising channels.
- Develop alternative operational scenarios when volume, cost, supplier capacity or quality assumptions change.
- Ensure programme activities are delivered on time, within budget and to agreed quality standards.
- Maintain a holistic view of programme performance, ensuring all activities contribute to sustainable donor growth and long-term value.
- Design, develop and manage offline acquisition campaigns from concept through implementation and evaluation.
- Develop acquisition propositions, campaign concepts and channel-specific approaches that maximise donor recruitment and donor quality.
- Define campaign objectives, target audiences, operational requirements, timelines and success measures.
- Lead campaign implementation by coordinating internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
- Document campaign outcomes, recommendations and learnings to support continuous programme development.
- Own the ongoing monitoring of programme performance through dashboards and KPIs.
- Analyse donor recruitment, fulfilment, conversion, CPA, ROI, donor quality, retention indicators and other acquisition performance metrics.
- Interpret campaign results, identify root causes behind performance trends and proactively recommend improvements.
- Develop segmentation and targeting proposals that improve campaign effectiveness.
- Design, implement and evaluate tests and other optimisation initiatives.
- Present evidence-based recommendations to support programme development and investment decisions.
- Build and manage high-performing relationships with fundraising agencies and suppliers, ensuring they have the direction, support and resources needed to deliver outstanding results.
- Develop campaign briefs, operational requirements and performance expectations, ensuring all activities are aligned with programme objectives and MSF fundraising standards.
- Monitor supplier performance against agreed KPIs and quality standards, leading regular performance reviews and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Motivate and inspire agency fundraising teams through effective campaign briefings, training, performance feedback and by connecting their work to the impact it generates for MSF's humanitarian mission.
- Collaborate closely with Fundraising Systems & Analytics, Communications, Finance and other internal stakeholders to ensure effective programme delivery.
- Actively contribute to MSF's international fundraising platforms, working groups and communities of practice, sharing knowledge and best practices.
- Develop donor-centred fundraising propositions that translate MSF's operational work into compelling acquisition campaigns.
- Coordinate the development of campaign materials across all offline channels.
- Review fundraising copy and campaign materials.
- Ensure all communications reflect MSF's brand, tone of voice and fundraising principles.
- Regularly evaluate programme performance to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Recommend new acquisition approaches, campaign concepts, channels and testing opportunities.
- Research emerging fundraising, customer acquisition and performance marketing practices and assess their relevance for MSF Portugal.
- Document learnings and contribute to the continuous evolution of the acquisition programme.
- Promote a culture of innovation, experimentation and evidence-based decision making.
Required Experience
- Experience managing customer acquisition, marketing, performance marketing or fundraising programmes and campaigns.
- Experience managing external suppliers or agencies.
Qualifications
Bachelor's or master's degree in Marketing, Business, Management or another relevant discipline.
