Overview
Provide technical support for short-lived climate pollutants (SLCP) mitigating actions in the waste sector, focusing on organic waste and wastewater, aligning with Brazil's policy context and CCAC Accelerator goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to the SLCP Unit in developing SLCP mitigating actions in the waste sector.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to orient national waste policies towards SLCP mitigation.
- Support development and implementation of systems and policies for organic waste segregation, treatment, and valorization.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of financing mechanisms for SLCP mitigation solutions.
- Seek synergy opportunities with other sectors.
- Organize stakeholder capacity building and training opportunities.
- Maintain coordination with the CCAC Secretariat.
- Support Brazil's leadership in the CCAC Waste Hub.
- Technically support the review of CCAC project documents.
- Participate in relevant events about waste.
Required Experience
- At least 7 years of professional experience working in a field relevant to climate change and waste is required.
- Demonstrated ability to write reports, analyse data and provide technical advice in the waste sector, including to High-Level stakeholders is required.
- Knowledge and experience in development communication and capacity-building methods is required.
- Proven experience in organic waste management systems, including segregation at source, collection systems, and valorization pathways (e.g., composting, BSF, anaerobic digestion), is highly desirable.
- Proven experience or knowledge on carbon credits applied to solid waste management is desirable.
- Experience with Brazil’s public sector institutions is an asset.
- Experience in climate finance is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience in financing mechanisms for the waste sector, including project structuring, public-private partnerships, or blended finance for organic waste and methane mitigation solutions, is highly desirable.
- Experience with short-lived climate pollutants is an asset (methane, black carbon, etc).
Qualifications
- Advanced university degree, master or equivalent, in biology, environmental sciences, environmental engineering, natural resources management, ecology, economics, sustainable development or a similar discipline.
- A first-level university degree in combination with four additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
