Overview

Provides general outpatient and special health services, manages a health centre, and supervises staff. The role involves performing medical examinations and maintaining relationships with the local community and authorities.


Key Responsibilities
  • Provides general outpatient services and other special services, including maternal and child health, control of non-communicable diseases as well as for hospital referrals;
  • Performs medical examination of applicants for special hardship assistance, newly recruited staff, periodic medical examination of existing staff and extension beyond retirement; participates in medical boards and ratifies sick leaves for staff;
  • Manages the health centre to which he/she is assigned, including organization of services, personnel supervision, supply management and reporting;
  • Supervises the work of medical, nursing and para-medical staff in the health centre to which he/she is assigned and evaluates their performance;
  • Maintains relationships with local community and local authorities;
  • Ensures availability of medicine and medical supplies in terms of quantity, quality and validity; oversees ordering and receipt of these items; raises survey reports for items which are not operational or expired and ensures the destruction process;
  • Participates in on-the-job and in-service training of other staff in accordance with the approved plans;
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Required Experience

At least five years of progressively responsible and relevant professional working experience is required.

Qualifications

A medical degree from an accredited educational institution including an internship of at least twelve-month duration. A valid license to practice medicine in the country of duty station (where applicable). Desirable qualifications: Post-graduate degree or diploma in public health, family health or other related discipline.

Contract Duration
Fixed Term Appointment for 1 year; including 1 year probation period, with the possibility of further extension, subject to the availability of funds, satisfactory performance, and continuing need.

Remuneration
Grade HL07 Monthly basic salary USD 2,509.10, payable in JD at UN monthly exchange rate. (The salary may be subject to a reduced work schedule.) Other benefits include monthly Provident Fund contribution (15.4% of basic salary paid by the Agency), compulsory medical insurance, 30 days of annual leave, and dependency allowance (if applicable). Additional benefits: 2 days of sick leave for each completed month of service. 14 weeks of Maternity Leave. 2 weeks paternity leave.
