Urban Development, Housing and Solid Waste Management Intern

Overview

This internship focuses on sustainable urban development and housing, with responsibilities in urban planning, environment, climate change risk management, and solid waste management.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in identifying opportunities and translating problems into project concepts.
• Support the preparation of meetings with potential partners and donors.
• Assist in developing and disseminating communication and outreach tools.
• Support the general implementation of UN-Habitat portfolio and engagement.
• Track key indicators and monitor reports.
• Assist in preparing layouts, engineering calculations, design drawings, specifications, and visual aids.
• Support field work in urban and engineering related components.
• Assist in collecting and integrating data and applying technical principles.
• Perform miscellaneous assignments on an as-needed basis.
• Assist with website and social media engagement.
• Support the identification and implementation of sustainable solid waste management practices.
• Assist in the design and testing of community-based recycling and circular economy initiatives.
• Collect and analyze data on waste streams and generation practices.
• Contribute to the preparation of reports, guidelines, and communication materials related to solid waste management.
• Support coordination with municipalities, private operators, and local stakeholders on integrated solid waste management solutions.

Required Experience

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.

Qualifications

Applicants must at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), c. Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent. Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite). Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs. As the Intern will be responsible for organization of workshops, it will be necessary for him/her to be able to make Power Point presentations during workshops and meetings will be required. Excellent communication skills will be required.
