Overview

Provide legal advice and services on institutional law and programme support, serving as a lead legal officer for a wide range of legal matters.


Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a lead legal officer and independently handle a wide range of legal matters.
  • Provide legal advice on public international law, including mandate, status, governance, privileges and immunities of IOM, relationship with the UN, and legal aspects of operations and policies.
  • Undertake legal research and analysis, preparing legal opinions, studies, and background notes.
  • Draft, review, and provide legal support for negotiations of host country agreements.
  • Provide legal support in connection with governing bodies’ meetings.
  • Review and comment on organizational regulations, rules, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Provide support to LEG deliverables under its annual workplan.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of assigned legal officers.
Required Experience
  • Seven years of relevant professional experience providing advice in public international law, of which at least five years within an international organization preferably in the UN system.
  • In-depth experience handling legal matters related to the status, privileges and immunities, governance, mandate and operations of international organizations.
Qualifications

Master’s degree or equivalent in International Law or a related field from an accredited academic institution; or, Bachelor’s degree in above fields.

Fluency in English is required (oral and written).
Languages Preferred
Working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an advantage.
Contract Duration
