Overview

Supports the implementation of disaster risk reduction initiatives in Africa, focusing on early warning systems and transboundary risk management.


Tasks Summary
  • Supports implementation of the Africa Early Warning for All Action Plan and African Multi-Hazard Early Warning and Early Action System
  • Facilitates knowledge exchange and triangular cooperation mechanisms
  • Assists in developing and reviewing legal and institutional frameworks for disaster risk reduction stakeholders
  • Participates in field missions and drafts mission summaries
  • Contributes to identifying funding opportunities, preparing proposals, and monitoring projects
  • Supports recruitment of technical experts
  • Assists in designing and rolling out training for hydro-meteorological modelling and data platforms
  • Undertakes outreach activities and liaises with stakeholders
  • Promotes disaster risk-informed decision-making processes
  • Supports organization of training workshops and seminars
  • Represents UNDRR at inter-agency meetings and makes presentations
  • Supports development of awareness campaigns for early warning messages
  • Contributes to policy documents, reports, and publications
  • Provides inputs for strategic papers, talking points, speeches, and presentations

Experience Requirements
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in project/programme management, administration or related area is required
  • Work experience in the establishment and operationalization of impact-based Early Warning Systems is required
  • Experience in facilitating partnerships among disaster risk reduction/disaster risk management institutions and academia is desirable
  • At least two (2) years of work experience in development and monitoring of work plans, procurement and financial reporting is desirable
  • Work experience in the African region is desirable

Qualification Requirements
  • An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in business administration, management, economics, physics, engineering, mathematics, environmental science, or a related field is required
  • A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree
